Social media’s trending with The Social Network unsurprisingly jumping straight to number one with takings of almost $2.7 million over Saw VII 3D, which on half the number of screens made $930,000. The geri-action thriller Red came in second on $1.73 million, only just holding back Paranormal Activity 2 and Life As We Know It each in their second week.
Despicable Me still hangs in the top 10, the animated film close to reaching the $22 million dollar mark. The new releases this week have a largely international flavour, particularly with two French films (Gainsbourg and Anything For Her), as well as Melbourne-filmed horror The Loved Ones, but the low-brow comedy Jackass 3D should fare best.
