2010 OFCS Award Nominees: Black Swan leads the charge

The Online Film Critics Society (OFCS), the international professional association of Internet-based film reviewers founded in 1997, has announced the nominations for its 2010 OFCS Awards.

Oscar front-runner Black Swan, a psychological thriller about a tormented Ballet dancer from director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler), leads the nominations with seven nods including best picture, best director and best actress (Natalie Portman).

In the category of best picture, Black Swan will be competing against the likes of David Fincher’s dramatised biopic The Social Network and The Coen Brothers’ hard-boiled western True Grit, each with six nominations. Also strongly represented by the society is Inception and 127 Hours, who recieved five nominations apiece.

Notable exclusions from the best picture race are the two inspirational biopics The Fighter and The King’s Speech, both of which recieved nods in the same category at the recent Golden Globe nominations. Taking their spot is Debra Granik’s unflinching Ozark drama Winter’s Bone and Pixar’s latest animated feature Toy Story 3.

At the 2009 awards, the OFCS gave the top honour to Kathryn Bigelow’s gritty war drama The Hurt Locker, which subsequently went on to win Best Picture and Best Director at the Academy Awards.

The 2010 award winners will be announced on January 3, 2011 via the society’s website at www.ofcs.org.
