In Shreds #5

In Shreds #5

By
Dec 6, 2008

Due to my laziness it’s been a while since the last In Shreds, which Fletch from Blog Cabins successfully answered, correctly guessing all three posters; Babylon A.D, American History X and Dune. However, no one got the bonus point for correctly guessing the link: the directors of all three films were so unhappy with the final product, they each wanted to remove their names from the films credits (In Dune’s case, director David Lynch even opted to use the infamous alias of discontent “Alan Smithee” for the credits).

If you don’t know by now, In Shreds is the weekly game where I “shred together” 3 movie posters. To help promote more participation, I have decided to change the scoring system.  Now there is 1 point for each film correctly guessed , and a bonus 1 point if you can spot what all three films have in common. This way there is 4 points each week to give away.  As always, I have removed obvious title words from the posters to make it a bit more of a challenge.

I guess I’m in the giving mood this week, with Christmas around the corner and all, because this week’s In Shred’s is possbily the easiest yet!

Ok, well, I’ve got two of the three, and a guess for the theme…

    Twilight (duh)
    William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet

Theme: based on literary works? I know that’s probably not it, as your themes are usually deeper than that, but that’s the best I got.

Nice work Fletch, that’s two of the films! 2 points coming your way.

Still one left though and no, that’s not the link.
Whilst the posters might be easier, I must confess the link is not a obvious one.

Since no one else seems to be playing, I’ll give you a big hint:
    Soundtrack.

I think the third movie is The Prestige. But I don’t get the soundtrack connection.

Spot on Wendy! The Prestige it is.

I’ll see if anyone else can nab the bonus point before I give any more hints…

As soon as you said ‘soundtrack’ I knew the link: each film has a song from Radiohead on the soundtrack!

Romeo + Juliet – ‘Talk Show Host’
    Twilight – ’15 Step’
The Prestige – ‘Analyse’ (by Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke)

A very obvious link for those who know you well :D

Pretty much spot on Elise, certainly enough to take the point.

    Word perfect the answer would have been;

The first song to play in the credits in all three movies is written and performed by Thom Yorke, front man of Radiohead.

Romeo + Juliet – Exit Music (For a Film) By Radiohead
(“Talk Show Host” is featured in the film, not the credits.)

Twilight – “15 Step” By Radiohead

The Prestige – Analyse By Thom Yorke
(Solo Project by Thom Yorke, as you noted)

As you said, the “friends” aspect certainly helps…as no one else would know about my undying love for Radiohead!

Cool! I knew about Talk Show Host being played in Romeo + Juliet, but not the song in the end credits. I love that movie!!

And I couldn’t help myself because you had been discussing the song in Twilight the other day… so it just clicked! Sometimes it’s not what you know… :P
