I don’t read comics. I might have flicked through The Adventures of Tintin once, but that’s about the extent of it. My ignorance, however, has never been much of a problem when it comes to reviewing comic-adapted movies, if only because a majority of them feature superheroes iconic enough that I haven’t needed to read a single issue to know who’s who or what’s what.

Then comes along Green Lantern, a [...]

Jake Kasdan’s Bad Teacher is a breath of fresh, cynical air. And that’s not because it’s outrageously hilarious – the jokes miss just as often as they hit – but because it’s a film that, for once, actually lives up to its title. From start to finish, the teacher in Bad Teacher is bad. She’s not somewhat bad, she’s not repentantly bad and she’s certainly not sympathetically bad.  Nope, she’s [...]

Sure, the Norwegian mock-doc The Troll Hunter begins almost identically to 1999’s The Blair Witch Project, but I can assure you it’s not your average found-footage movie. Just give writer/director André Ovredal a good twenty minutes to find his own voice, and before you know it, you’ll be knee-deep in one of the most enjoyable and amusing movies to ever involve shaky camerawork, terrified documentarians and things that go bump [...]

Tired of having to actually read our movie reviews? Well then, you lazy sod, you’re in luck!

Introducing Cut Print Review’s Video Reviews, a weekly YouTube segment where I’ll be reviewing an upcoming film with a tinge of insight and plenty of goofy humour. If that sounds right up your alley, then tune in to my first installment where I review the new Judd Apatow-produced comedy Bridesmaids ahead of its [...]

I loathe having to review a film like Terrance Malick’s Palme d’Or winning The Tree of Life. Why? Because it’s the kind of epic art film that to summate in a few measly sentences would be a grave injustice to the thousands of hours poured into its inspired creation. So that’s why I decided to make a silly, inane video review instead!

Watch the review below and, on the off chance [...]

In a sea of sloppy sequels (Pirates of the Caribbean 4) and rote remakes (The Hangover Part 2), X-men: First Class immediately stands out for simply being something different — good.

Taking a leaf out of the J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot, First Class goes back to the beginning [...]

Make no mistake, The Hangover was truly one of the funniest films of the last decade. While the crude comedies coming out of Judd Apatow’s camp were being diluted with sentiment, Todd Phillips’ 2009 smash hit embraced absurdism head-on as it careered from one outrageously hilarious situation to another, never once slowing down to get gushy. And fair enough, too; no one goes to Sin City [...]

Insidious is the new horror film from Australian director James Wan, the co-creator of the SAW franchise, but don’t hold that against him.

This is an good ol’ fashioned haunting, one with a tangible  atmosphere, strong performances and plenty of skin-crawling scares. Initially, you might argue it’s a copy of Poltergiest — indeed, its similarities are many — but Insidious, for better and worse, does eventually stand on its own two [...]
