Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess are reportedly in early negotiations to star in One Day, the next feature film from Lone Scherfig, director of last year’s coming-of-age drama An Education. Based on David Nicholls novel, the film follows the love affair between Emma (Hathaway) and Dexter (Sturgess), who first meet in 1988 at their graduation and proceed to meet one day a year for the next 20 years, until they finally realise they are meant to be together.
Hathaway and Sturgess make for a likeable and attractive couple and, under the direction of Scherfig, will most likely give enjoyable and consistent performances. It will be interesting to see them handle the scenes set in 20 years time and whether or not Hathaway will once again be able to maintain a convincing British accent, after giving us a pretty good one in Becoming Jane. In a nutshell, I’m predicting that this is going to be a combination of When Harry Met Sally, Love Story and An Affair to Remember for the younger generation.
