The films (possibly) in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s pipeline

The Governator divulges on future roles

Mr Arnold Schwarzenegger, the definitive action movie star and former governor of California, is now in his 63rd year among us petty humans and is showing no signs of slowing down. Just last month, he announced via Twitter that after a seven-year hiatus from movies (due to his Governating) he can now begin considering the mounds of movie scripts at his doorstep.

Now, I’m not sure about you, but this news makes me giddy with excitement. Since the February announcement, I’ve been trawling the internet in order to find out what people expect Arnie will choose as his comeback film. Well, the folks over at TheArnoldFans.com have shone a little light on the situation. Details are scarce, but any news is good news. Their reporters recently attended the Arnold Seminar at The Arnold Sports Festival (yep, that exists) and managed to garner some information on the three scripts he is currently considering out of the gazillion on offer. Here’s what Schwarzenegger had to say:

“Well, first of all it’s more like 15 films, obvious ones from The Terminator to remakes of Predator and The Running Man and all of those things.  Then also a lot of original stuff too.  But I am also packaging a Comic Book character right now. I’m going to announce that sometime by the end of March or the beginning of April.”

Well now, a comic book character sounds very interesting indeed. Could this be a relatively unknown comic or something from the Marvel or DC canons? Here’s hoping it’s more original, as his terribly camp performance as Batman villain Mr Freeze in Joel Schumacher’s Batman and Robin won’t be forgotten any time soon (“ICE to see you!”). I feel a Terminator remake is inevitable at some point, but what I am really hoping for is a direct sequel to the original Predator. I say dig up those old, draft scripts for Predator 2 involving Dutch doing battle on the Predator home planet and let’s just forget the Alien vs Predator movies and Nimrod Antal’s underwhelming Predators ever happened. Unlikely, I know. But you can’t stop a dreamer!

So what do you think Arnie’s anticipated comeback will be? Or do you think he’s getting too old for this shit? No matter what your opinion is on the aging star, I think we are all looking forward to hearing about THE last action hero’s return to the silver screen.
