According to the UK Telegraph, a 27-year-old man has been arrested for the suspected shooting of another 42-year-old male that took place in a Latvian cinema during a screening of Darren Aronofsky’s brutal Psychological thriller Black Swan.
According to reports from Latvian news agency Leta, witnesses said the altercation ended in tragedy when the credits began to roll. The reason cited? The victim was eating his popcorn too loudly.
Black Swan is a very tense and stomach churning film, so I can see why people would have felt a little exasperated post screening. But killing a man over noisy popcorn? That’s just ridiculous.
That being said, it’s not the first time a disgruntled moviegoer has resolved the issue with a bullet. In 2008, James Joseph Cialella Jr. of Philadelphia shot a fellow patron because he did little to stop his son from playing up during a screening of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Much like Black Swan, Benjamin Button was among the Academy Award nominees of the year. Is there something in that?
On a much lighter note, make sure you watch this clip of the SNL crew doing the ‘Would you fuck her?’ scene out of Black Swan. I’ll always love Jim Carrey.
